MLM and Network Marketing Leadership Introduction
Lack of leadership causes more people to fail in mlm and network marketing than any other single factor.
Wow, really? Is that a fact or just opinion? Well, let’s take a look at two very common reasons people say they have failed in their most recent business attempt.
1. They were unable to sponsor people.
Leadership, as defined by John Maxwell, is simply defined as influence. If you are a leader, you have the ability to get followers, period. If you have failed to sponsor others in your current business, it’s because you have no leadership ability. Notice I said ability. Leadership is an ability or skill that can be developed.
Those who sponsor people into their business on a consistent basis are those who have become a leader at some level. Those who have very large groups, where many people are sponsoring others have achieved an even greater level of leadership. Those who make the most money in this industry are the ones who have a multitude of leaders who lead other leaders, period.
Would you like to learn how to sponsor others? Start by working on your leadership ability.
2. Their upline provided no support.
This is one of my favorite excuses for failure in the network marketing or mlm industry. The fault lies on two people in this scenario.
First, if you say that your upline provides no support, then why did you choose them in the first place? Did you really seek to understand either their leadership ability or potential to lead? Why would you follow someone who has no clue what they’re doing?
Now, there is an exception to the statements above. I know what you’re thinking. What about the brand new person? Well, in this instance, a person can leverage the leadership ability of their upline. If you are looking at an opportunity and you don’t see leadership in your direct sponsor, ask about their upline. If you can find someone who displays leadership ability, then you can still get by.
Second, fault in the upline not providing support also lies in the upline. If you sponsor another person into the business, your leadership has just begun. You are only at the very basic level of influence with a person and must ascend to higher levels of leadership if you want to see people stick around.
Also as an upline, you must continue to grow in leadership so that your people will be able to leverage this with the people that they will potentially bring into the business. Fail to grow as a leader and you not only affect yourself and those you sponsor, but those they sponsor as well.
So, as you can see from just the 2 reasons above, lack of leadership is deadly when it comes to building your mlm or network marketing business. You must learn how to become a leader or learn the ability to influence others.
