Personal Branding, Marketing, Advertising?

Many times people come into this industry and do not achieve the success they aim for, which is primarily because they have not learned the specialized skills necessary to build an effective business.

 

Most join a company and are then given different replicated tools to go out and advertise with.  They have a company website, company brochures, company sizzle calls and conference calls and various paraphernalia about the products.  They learn the process and skill of advertising.  What’s wrong with this model?  Why will advertising not produce success in the long run?

 

Advertising or promotion of company materials is ineffective in the long run because you are competing with every other company representative and the company itself.  Advertising is great for the company’s business but will do more damage than good for your personal organization.  (Email advertising, print advertising, radio or tv advertising, phone blasting, etc…)

 

So what should a person do?

 

Success always leaves clues and the most successful people in this industry do the same thing over and over.  They practice the following 2 skills over and over and over again.  These 2 skills will help a person build any type of business with great success.  These 2 skills will produce repeat buyers and long lasting business relationships with others.  These 2 skills really do separate the one who succeeds every time from the one who fails.  I know, I know, what are the 2 skills?

 

The skills of marketing and personal branding are the 2 skills that will separate you from the competition and cause you to build a business that will pay you enough to retire early, enjoy life, have time freedom and pass on great things to your kids and grandkids.  A good starting place would be to understand the definition of these 2 skill sets.

 

Here’s a great definition of marketing that I learned from my mentor:

 

“Marketing is the art and science of empowering, communicating and developing a relationship with another human being based on their needs and not mine or yours.”

 

When you become concerned with the needs, wants and desires of others, you will build a huge business, period.

 

The 2nd of the 2 skill sets is Personal Branding.

 

Personal branding is the process of sharing your dreams, goals, desires and character through various avenues such as a website, blog, videos, a system and even business cards.  People tend do business with those they know, like and trust.  If you aren’t allowing people to know, like and trust you, then you are not building a highly profitable business.

 

Master the 2 skills above and you will succeed.
